When it all started for Roy.
Roy Keane signed for Rockmount Afc for the 1981/82 season.
Roy’s first cup final was the 1982/83 u12 local cup final V Springfield from Cobh.The game ended in a 2 all draw in which Roy scored.Rockmount lost 1-0 in the replay.
The people running the Schoolboys at the time were Timmy Murphy,Gene O Sullivan,Denis O Donovan,John O Shea & Tony Barry.
Roy won his first Cup with Rockmount in the 1982/83 season.The u12s won the Val O Connor Cup beating Mayfield 3-0 in the final.Roy got the man of the match and scored a hatrick.Rockmount were the first schoolboy club to win this trophy.
The next five seasons were a great time for Rockmount schoolboys as they won numerous league & cup titles.
Some of the players that played with Roy during those successful years were Derek Clarke(present day head goalkkeeping coach with Rockmount)Alan O Sullivan,Mark Hurley,Damien Martin,Len Downey,Paul Mc Carthy,Philip Murphy and Jason Lynch
Roy was the Captain of the Cork u14s that won the Kennedy Cup which included no less than five Rockmount Players,Len Downey,Damien Martin,Roy Keane,Paul Mc Carthy and Alan O Sullivan.They all joined Roy on the Irish u15 squad the following season.
Roy last played with Rockmount in the 1988/89 season in what was a great year for the club.The youths won the league and three cups and were runners up in The Munster Youths Cup.Roy scored 30 goals that season also played for Rockmount Seniors & the Cork Youth team.
