Cope FC’s winning run continues at Cynthia Lynch Memorial Cup tournament

The much coveted Cynthia Lynch Memorial Cup will stay with Cope FC for at least another year after they comfortably retained the title in a good natured series of games against a Planet/Rockmount selection recently.

On what was the eighth running of the event, Cope got off to a great start winning the first game 4-2 with a hat-trick by the impressive Jack Lyons being the highlight. Goalkeeper Stephen McGlynn and defender Darren O’Riordan also performed well.

The second and decisive game also went the way of the hosts. With Dean Ahern pulling the strings in midfield and Sean Murphy excelling at the back, they enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory to take the series.

The Planet/Rockmount select were obviously disappointed but their coach feels that they are maturing nicely and they are confident of breaking their 8 year duck in the not too distant future. A positive development this year was the introduction of star performer young Eoin Donovan who capped a great debut with a well-taken goal.

To conclude proceedings John Lynch(Cynthia’s Dad) presented the Cynthia Lynch Memorial Cup to co-captains – Dean Aherne, Jason Hopkins, Stephen McGlynn and Darren O’Riordan.

A great evening of football fun was had by all and we look forward already to next year’s event. Our thanks to Cope, Denis Lynch (Planet) and Greg Coleman (IRE Recruitment) for their help.
